The Division of Business Opportunities and Workforce Development (BOWD) of the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOT) honored The Hispanic Contractors Association of the Carolinas (HCAC) as Partner of the Year. The award was presented on February 9 during the Annual Conference of Transportation in Raleigh, North Carolina.

This is the first award the HCAC has received from a state agency, confirming the positive momentum the association is experiencing. From the initial foundation built five years ago, the HCAC

continues to promote its objective of identifying and providing development opportunities for the Hispanic construction community in the Carolinas.

"We are very proud of
this award; it is the recognition of all the hard work that has been performed since the beginning of this organization. We look forward to establishing partnerships with more organizations and to continue delivering more benefits to the Hispanic construction community in the Carolinas", said Julian Arcila, Executive Director.

According to Russell Shelton,
BOWD Director, the recognition was given to the HCAC for the joint efforts of both organizations to train the community in safety matters on the jobsite, continuous planning to reach more of the Hispanic population and for establishing specific training programs to certify Hispanic construction businesses as minority entities.

Renee Jones, president of HCAC, said "it is a great accomplishment to have been nominated as the Partner of the Year and an honor to be recognized by the NCDOT for our training and educational programs for the construction community. This distinction will allow the HCAC to extend these programs to more Hispanic companies in other regions of the Carolinas. The NCDOT has been a strategic partner of our organization and we expect to continue working closely together in 2012".

To continue
its strong focus on training and outreach into the Hispanic community in the Triangle area, the HCAC is planning to host a Safety & Construction Fair on April 28. The event will take place at Villa Latina, a local shopping center, located at 421 Chapanoke Road in Raleigh.
