About 30 contractors were trained by HCAC during its safety fairCharlotte, NC. On October 15th, the Hispanic Contractors Association of the Carolinas had another version of its well known
Safety, Construction and Labor Fair, where the main objective was to provide free construction and safety classes for the Hispanic contractors in Charlotte and surrounding areas.

The HCAC Safety, Construction & Labor Fair gathered in Plaza Fiesta Carolinas 23 exhibitors that confirmed their commitment with the Hispanic community. This population has a crucial importance for the construction industry and offering free construction and safety classes for the Hispanic contractors in Charlotte is something that a lot of companies want to support.

"About 85% of our workforce is Hispanic. This is why we wanted to exhibit at this event and join the HCAC. We believe that this institution is fundamental for us to understand our workers needs; I'm sure that our workforce will take advantage of the opportunities offered by the HCAC", said Tina Simmons, owner of Skyline Design and Landscape, a subcontractor that was filling employment applications during the show.

Another interesting element portrayed during the show, was the free educational program offered to the Hispanics working in construction: about 30 contractors pre registered for the classes that included two safety workshops and three construction management workshops.

"We had a good class, with a good amount of people. We really want to keep having these events and schedule smalIrwin had also a contractor contestl workshops to help Hispanic contractors to get the NCDOT minority certification", assured Shelton Russell, Director of the Business Opportunities and Workforce Development (BOWD) division of the NCDOT.

The Safety, Construction and Labor fair was much than just technical information. Thanks to the participation of the Home Builders Institute (HBI) HCAC distributed 25 Sed de Saber kits, a system designed to help the Hispanics workers and contractors to learn the basics of the English used in construction, improving theirs communication skills in the job site.

"We're very satisfied with this event. We heard positive comments from many of our exhibitors and we saw an interesting group of Hispanic contractors interested to learn new things for their professional development. we really want to thank all of our exhibitors and sponsors for their trust and support. We feel each day that we're not alone in this enormous responsibility that means educating the Hispanic contractors and bring them as a fundamental part of the development of this great nation", finished Julian Arcila, HCAC Executive Director.
